WHY DEEP ELLUM FUELS OUTWERD.

Deep Ellum wasn’t even on my radar at first. It started as this mythical spot I’d heard about in passing. But the more I dug into it, the more it pulled me in, like some gravitational force telling me, “Yo, this is where you’re supposed to be.” Two years deep now, moving here was one of the best calls I’ve ever made. And it’s not just a place—it’s the heartbeat behind OUTWERD., my ongoing art project disguised as a clothing line.

I’m not big on exploring every corner of Dallas, but Deep Ellum? It’s got that gritty, New York-style edge I grew up loving. Except, it’s mine now, fresh and unclaimed. It’s a city buzz with a twist I can sink my teeth into. The streets, the visuals, the whole vibe. They all feed into OUTWERD’s designs. But the real fuel? The people. This underground, after-dark kaleidoscope of souls. Each with their own story that lights me up. They’re the spark that keeps this brand rolling.

Take my "IN SIGHT" tee—it’s a perfect mashup of what Deep Ellum stirs in me. Picture Hackers (you know, that ‘95 vibe) crashing into Cyberpunk 2077. Nostalgic yet futuristic, gritty skater-streetwear that’s been kicking around in my head forever. Deep Ellum’s raw, untamed streets and underground pulse push me to capture that feeling in every stitch. One night, I’ll meet someone, a random encounter, a fleeting convo and boom, a design is born. I might never see them again, but their energy’s locked into OUTWERD. somewhere. This also happens often with my photography as well.

The more folks flood through Deep Ellum chasing a good time, the more I soak up. It’s a constant stream of inspiration of new faces, new stories, new designs. I’m always mulling over the next piece while I’m down here. Long term? I’d love to see OUTWERD. collab with the music acts rolling through town or team up with the bars, restaurants, and venues that make this place tick. Imagine OUTWERD. as a Deep Ellum staple, spread by the locals who get it. That’s the dream.

For now, this place keeps me creating—keeps OUTWERD. alive. It’s not just a neighborhood; it’s the soul of the brand.
